Natural gas is coming to your community

Union Gas has now connected five rural and Indigenous communities in Ontario to affordable natural gas.

Extending natural gas service to more communities costs more than the revenue it will generate. Because of this, the province recently introduced regulations under Bill 32 - the Access to Natural Gas Act, which would enable the partial funding of new natural gas community expansion projects in Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, North Bay-Northshore and Peninsula Roads, Saugeen First Nation, Cornwall Island, Hiawatha First Nation and Scugog Island through a monthly subsidy collected from existing natural gas ratepayers. Co-funding through a surcharge from new customers served by these projects is required.

We are optimistic that Bill 32, through future regulations, will enable additional projects. We will continue to work with municipalities and Indigenous communities as more information on future projects becomes available.
